SYMBOLS
The whole storyline of Animal Farm is based on the Rusian Revolution and all of the major influences during the time. For example, Orwell used the different animals' characters to represent certain people who made the Russian Revolution what it was.
Animalism
The idea of Animalism in the novel which is being spread by Old Major represents the idea of communism that was being spread in Russia by Karl Marx during the Russian Revolution.
Old Major
Old major represents Karl Marx, a German man who introduced the idea of Communism to Russia. He also is known as the man who came up with the idea of The Russian Revolution.
Napoleon
Napoleon represents Joseph Stalin, a man who ran for leader of Russia after Karl Marx's death. He wanted to carry on the communist views of Marx but with violent tactics.
Mr. Jones
Mr. Jones represents Czar Nicholas II the leader of Russia who was doing an awful job of running and organizing the country. He was forced away just like Mr. Jones.
Snowball
Snowball represents the opposing party leader Leon Trotsky running against Stalin. Both want to take Czar Nicholas II's place but Stalin wins the votes.
Windmill
The windmill represents manipulation of the animals abilities to work. This also represents Stanlin's manipulation over Russia
Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandemnts that the pigs make represent the comparison of a country's rules to the way people should follow a religion. This shows the seriousness that the leaders have toward leading.
