-A GEORGE ORWELL CLASSIC-
ANIMAL FARM
Old Major
Old Major is a pig on Animal Farm that sparks the idea of the rebellion. As a very large prize-winning boar he decides to take the leadership role on the farm. He gathers all of the animals to a meeting and tells them his ideas of the rebellion. All the animals agree with his ideas and it becomes official. Old major soon becomes very old and dies, leaving Snowball and Napoleon to take his place. Old Major is only in the novel for a short time but he is very significant in that he starts the whole rebellion.
Clover
Clover is Boxers close friend throughout the novel. She is very kind-hearted and always is concerned with Boxer's well-being. She sometimes has suspicions that the pigs are changing the commandments and that they are being unfair to the rest of the farm. Somehow, though, Clover always blames it on her mind and that it is becoming forgetful concerning the commandments. The reader routes for Clover throughout the novel and hopes she realizes that her mind is not actually playing tricks on her.
Mollie
Mollie is the third and most conceited horse that lives on Animal Farm. Mollie does not like the idea of the rebellion because she has no humans to take of her. She eventually breaks the rules by allowing a man to pet her. She denies being involved with a human but eventually abandons the farm and is never seen again. It is rumored that she left and went to another farm where humans would groom her and feed her well. The reader notices Mollie's need for order throughout the novel and agrees with her leaving the farm.
Benjamin
Benjamin is the donkey of the farm. He is very opposed to the idea of rebellion because he feels that things will always be unpleasant on the farm no matter who their leader ends up being. Although he is opposed to the pigs and their ways he does nothing about it. Benjamin appears to be just plain neggative but the reader sees that he really is the one who has the right opinion of Animal Farm.
Mr. Jones
Mr. Jones is the previous owner of what once was Manor Farm. He is a very lazy and violent man that treats his animals horribly. He doesn't feed them often enough and whips them to work harder. When the rebellion starts Mr. Jones is chased off of the farm and no longer owns what is now Animal Farm. Throughout the part of the novel that Mr. Jones is in the reader learns to detest him for his cruel behaviour toward the animals.
THE SECONDARY CHARACTERS
Here are a few characters from the novel that played the secondary roles. These characters were not quite as important as the primary characters but the novel could not have progressed smoothly without them.
