-A GEORGE ORWELL CLASSIC-
ANIMAL FARM
IMPORTANT QUOTATIONS
"Remember, comrades, your resolution must never falter. No argument must lead you astray. Never listen when they tell you that Man and the animals have a common interest, that the prosperity of the one is the prosperity of the others."
- Old Major
This quotation foreshadows the eventual resemblence that the pigs and the humans will have. Also, Old Major warns the animals about this and the animals continue to keep this in mind so they end up overlooking the fact that the pigs are cheating them just like Mr. Jones once did.
THE SEVEN COMMANDMENTS
1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.
2. Whatever goes upon four legs, or has wings, is a friend.
3. No animal shall wear clothes.
4. No animal shall sleep in a bed.
5. No animal shall drink alcohol.
6. No animal shall kill any other animal.
7. All animals are equal.
The rules that are created by Animal Farm are being compared to the ten commandemnts given by God. This is trying to show the comparison between how people are serious about their religion to how Napoleon wants the animals to be serious about Animal Farm.
"I will work harder!"
-Boxer
This quotation that is said by Boxer represents the ability that Napoleon had to brainwash the animals. He made them want to stay loyal to the farm by convincing then there was an amazing change happening. The quotation represents the blindness that many of the animals had toward Napoleon's controlling ways.
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."
This quotation represents makes the Animla Farm appear different than what the farm once was when Mr. Jones owned it but in reality the farm is exactly the same. The animals started off folowing the commandment that "All animals are equal" but soon the commandment added on "But some animals are more than equal". This shows how sooner or later the rules always seem to develop exceptions.
"The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."
This quotation is the very last sentence from the novel. This quotation is probably the most significant to the novel in that it illustrates the central message of the novel in one sentence. The quote is trying to say that eventually people get so caught up in power and greed that they forget that we are all human and soon people start to act like animals.
